We were driving along in the van the other day when Dennis proceeded to tell me a joke. It went a little something like this...
Dennis- "Mom, why did the pan cross the road?"
Me- "I dunno, why?"
Dennis- "Because he needed to get to the other side!"
Me- "Ha ha, tee hee hee, chuckle and chortle....that's a good one!"
Mr. C- "That's not funny at all, maybe in the olden days it would have been funny, but it's not
now. Maybe like in the 1800's or something."
How that would be funnier in the 1800's, I don't know. I guess he's assuming since technology advances, humor must as well. Logical, I suppose.
You have to realize that the 1800's were full of solemnity, dismal darkness and oppression. So even a joke that is a stretch such as this one, would have been so refreshing that one couldn't help but to burst forth into a scattering sunshine-filled laughter fit. :) But here in the new millennium, we have sunshine, colorful flowers, grass, candy, cookies and gum, which naturally makes such jokes completely and utterly unable to lift the already advanced and enlightened spirit. :) And there you have it! :)
ReplyDeleteT, your thoughts enlighten me!
