Today I was able to see my sister-in-law become a US citizen.

Today I got goosebumps as new Americans gave simple speeches. They spoke on glorious freedom and reminded us not to ever take it for granted. One woman spoke on how she has rights as a woman here and is valued and respected. Others gave tear-filled accounts of long years spent in America, learning a new language and new customs. Some talked on how they love the friendliness of Americans. We then sang "God Bless the USA" and my heart soared. What a fitting way to spend this memorable day. I AM proud to be an American.

Congratulations to all new citizens today!

Today Q pleasantly roamed the halls inside the United States District Courthouse.

Then tried desperately to jump into a fountain outside the Courthouse. Dad had to hold him back.

Today I wore my new $3 Charlotte Russe shirt. I love it! *squeal*

Today Dennis, Q and I were able to meet Daddy downtown for lunch before the ceremony.
Dennis got a giant Rice Krispie Treat the size of his face. He said it was his "best day ever".

Today I drove home with my thoughts. I enjoyed a beautiful sky and thought about how lucky I am to be living in a beautiful country. I drove to my friend's house to pick up the two older kids and we stopped off after to get some much needed gas.

Today Mr C. decided he wanted to help with the filling of the gas tank.
While getting ready, he asked me what happens if you get gas on your skin. We talked about how it burns and isn't good to have on you, etc. Next, a series of events took place that I still can't figure out and ended with Mr C. accidentally pulling out the gas pump while it was still pumping and locked. The pump sprayed, flipped and flew all over myself and him. I grabbed the pump as quick as I could catch it and turned it off. That's when my poor Mr. C started screaming. It had sprayed him directly in his face getting into his eyes. I frantically started looking for a water bottle while a kind motorcyclist ran to the station and asked for help. The attendants rushed out to help strip off Mr. C's shirts, wash his face and flush his eyes over and over and over. We then got back in the car and raced home. My hip where I had been hit most had started to burn like mad and was getting worse by the second. I ran in, called Poison Control and followed their instructions. Mr. C stood under the shower for 15 min. I rinsed all our clothes. Then we washed and washed the gas off. I have a nice little burn on my hip but it will be fine. Mr. C's eye should be fine too... he had said at first that one eye was really blurry, but he's saying it's great now so we'll keep watching him over the next few days. Goodness! I am glad for kind people who help quick. Poison Control said it was great that we were so quick to flush his eyes, etc. I'm glad too! So...tip of the day...avoid coming in contact with gasoline. It's the pits, especially when it gets in your eyes or on your new Charlotte Russe shirt.
What a great day for your SIL and reminder of the great country we have. Sad about the gas incident, good thing you acted quick!!!

ReplyDeleteBut congrats to your gorgeous sister-in-law! (And I'm totally jealous of her perfect legs - no editing necessary.) ;)
Congrats to your sister-in-law!! Becoming a U.S. citizen is NOT easy to do! My had goes off to her and all of those who are serious enough about living in this country to do it. I wish we were all that patriotic and grateful!
ReplyDeleteDitto, B is so gorgeous! I love the insight to a memorable day. Q looks so cute walking down the hall :)
ReplyDeleteI hope C's eyes feel better and they stay green as ever! He is such a good side-kick and smart too. I had a good discussion with him about credit cards, checks and plain cash. He was very interested :)
