Sasha the Schwinn

My hubby is a rock star at gift-giving. I can never, EVER compete. I don't know how he does it. He's always coming up with thoughtful, whimsical ideas that I absolutely love. And he doesn't spend loads of money, he's just always listening to little things I say, or coming up with ideas that he knows I'll appreciate. And I do quite enjoy getting the fabulous gifts...but like I said, I am constantly trying to measure up to his gift prowess. But alas...I think I surrender. He did it again.

A couple of days before Valentine's Day, he brought me this beauty. He gave it to me early as he didn't know how/where to hide it...plus he just can't ever quite contain his excitement and looks for any excuse to give early gifts.

Isn't she lovely?

Candy apple red with chrome fenders, whitewall tires, and wide handlebars. Niiiiiiice.

I was supremely excited and the next day Dennis and I rode around our cul-de-sac for a good bit as Q snoozed. I haven't been on a bike in ages. I forgot how it felt to zip along the sidewalk with the wind whipping my face and my thighs burning as I pumped up a hill (remember, this bike is old school...no gears and no front brakes for that matter). It was completely awesome. And my behind suffered immensely for days after. How do kids do it?

The next night the two big kids and I went on a high-speed ride through the neighborhood. It was a complete riot and we returned home pink-cheeked, laughing and out of breath.

And just when I thought he couldn't do any better, he brought me a present to unwrap Valentine's morning. It was this delightful basket to grace Sasha's handlebars. I am ecstatic and the kids think we now need a little dog to put in there. I told them a water bottle, phone and purse would be fine.

Then I scored an awesome bike trailer on Craigslist so Q, Dennis and I could hit some fun parks in the afternoons.

Oh and I got my dearest hubby cologne. Burberry Brit to be exact. And it smells awesome. So there. And I made him a card.... *sigh* Someday, someday...

  1. I LOVE the bike, Lou. What a hunk magnet! I bet you've got guys drooling over you all around the block, eh?? And it sounds like you and L are a great match because you are EQUALLY as clever with gifts and project ideas. I am so jealous of your talents. How do you do it, Lou?? You are one of the most amazing and talented people I've ever met. And if I had a magazine, you'd be on the cover of it just about every month. :)

  2. P.S. Am I a good enough friend that you'd let me take that bad boy for a spin if ever I am in Arizona??

And stick to your guns on reserving that sacred basket for a water bottle, phone or purse. :)

  3. Love the bike! 10 points for the hubs! I really think you should make you and your kids clothes out of curtains (which you could probably do 30 min!) and ride through the streets singing songs :O)

  5. Cute bike! I've always wanted an old school bike. Fun times! Now I will know who that hot mama is when a flash of candy apple red flys by :)

  6. Hmmmmm I seem to have missed quite a bit on your blog. Where the heck have I been? I'm not sure cologne matches much to a sweet bike though E. Maybe next year you can take him on a hot air balloon ride and he can bring you home a stuffed animal. :)

  8. That bike is SCHWEET! (I'm giddy that no one's used that pun yet) Ten cotton balls dog would look PERFECT in that basket! Maybe two of him actually...

  9. The bike is sweet...and your husband is the best at gifts. I think I'm a little jealous, as mine boycotted V day. He assured me it was nothing to do with me...something about everyone just wanting our money for crap we'll throw away. I wouldn't throw THAT away! We are in for an afternoon at the park whenever. I will show up in my minivan though :-)
