A few weeks ago I was having a bummer day. I was a bit blue. Nothing major. Just one of those blah, downer days where you don't really know why it's not a great day...it's just not and you can't put your finger on it. And I muddled through the day getting nothing much done which obviously only deepened my gloominess.
Then towards the afternoon, I had to run an errand. With a sigh, I loaded the kids in the van and headed out. I rolled the windows down to capture some of the outrageously gorgeous day and randomly turned on the radio. A peppy little song was playing and some of the words really struck me...
It just takes some time...
Everything will be just fine, everything will be alright.
Live right now. Yeah, just be yourself.
Hey, don't write yourself off yet. Just do your best, do what you can.
And just like that, with the sun hitting my face, the music turned up loud and some fabulously fresh air whipping my face, the day seemed exponentially better. It was like the beautiful spring breeze literally blew my blue mood away... like it reached in and found all of the nasty little negative cobwebs that were stuck in my head and swept them off, leaving me wondering what the big problem was in the first place. And I swear the song could see right into my soul and was giving me my very own little pep talk. It was all so perfect.
So the next time you're a bit down, try walking outside and taking a big ol' breath of the freshest air you can find and then crank up some happy music....and who knows, it just might help.
PS Who knows the artist and name of the song without the aid of the all-knowing Internet?
Jimmy Eat World - one of my favs!
ReplyDeleteDon't be blue, Lou! Glad the tunes, breeze and sunshine cheered you up! :) And that IS a great song. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree music touches the soul and always can put a pep in my step! Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeletePerfect, I so needed that today and when I went for an errand it started raining and then I had to get the kids in and out of the car in it and that just added to my bummer day, so your post did it for me instead. PS Boj just posted some pics on facebook and there is one where your Dad looks EXACTLY like Christian, so freaky!
ReplyDeleteAwe yes, music feeds the soul. Glad you were lifted up!
ReplyDeleteThe "Everything, Everything will be alright, alright" part... my friend swore it said "elbow to elbow it will be alright" & she'd do this horrible dance move, thrusting her elbows every which way. I just did that as i sang the lyrics here ha ha
