A Couple of Beaches and Panning for Gold

We ran to San Diego for a very QUICK weekend beach getaway.  It was fast, furious and delightful.   We stuck our toes in the sand, made sand castles, frolicked in the waves and had a grand time.  We rented a couple of boogie boards and Mr. C and Miss B rode the waves the ENTIRE day.  They only stopped for a lunch break and then they limped out of the water with sore muscles and wind burned cheeks.  When asked if he had fun, Mr. C commented that he had a blast but wasn't sure if it was worth it.  I told him that after his sore muscles and sand-blasted body healed, it would be totally worth it.  Dennis was nervous of sharks so only had one turn on the boogie board and devoted the rest of the day to jumping waves and digging with Q.

After our beach day, we hit the pool at our hotel before dinner and bed.  Q decided to jump in the deep end with no help.  Even as he was drowning and I was jumping in to save him, he was still yelling that it was fine and he could definitely swim and that we were not to worry.  I didn't listen and I was worried...so I saved him anyway.  That kid.  He wasn't really close to drowning as he has got to be constantly watched and I was  therefore only a jump behind.  He keeps me on my toes that one.

The next day we visited the Mormon Battalion Historic Site and enjoyed an interactive tour complete with gold-panning for the kiddies.  They could have panned all the day long.  I am thinking about installing a similar device in the backyard.  They were even able to keep two pieces of fool's gold and were so thrilled.  Also, tongues sticking out ever-so-slightly seems to help in times of great concentration...for all of my kids.

On our way home, we stopped at Coronado Beach and walked the beach for a bit enjoying the breeze, the salty air and the sea gulls.  And I love the golden, glittery sand.  It is breathtaking.  I was a little bummed I didn't bring my fancy camera, but it would have been a nightmare keeping track of it at the beach...so I'm glad I just got to enjoy my time instead of stressing about my expensive camera being stolen/laden with sand.

We finally arrived back home, threw our luggage out and I re-packed, cleaned, organized and got the house in semi-order to leave for a week to Chicago and Minneapolis (the very next day).  Stay tuned for my big adventures.
