DIY: Mini Tissue Paper Banner

Here is one last minute craft idea for your Valentine's Day Breakfast Surprise.  It is so simple and cheap...which is awesome.

PS Do you know how hard it is to draw the world in chalk? Very.  It took quite a few tries.  Sheesh.

First gather two sheets of your favorite tissue paper (or whatever you find in your gift wrapping stash such as polka-dot craft wrapping paper), fold the first one in half and half again and cut out a rectangle.  You will now have four equal rectangles.  Hooray!  Now if only I could get chores done in a fourth of the time...

Next cut a triangle out of the bottom of your four rectangles at the same time.

Now do the same for the other color, using the first as a template.

Repeat above steps until you have as many as you would like.

Finally sew those cute pennants together!  No need to back-stitch, just be careful and go slow and steady as you are in fact sewing tissue paper.  Also make sure to leave enough seam allowance so the edge doesn't get mangled in the needle.  I sewed just a tad beyond the presser foot.  Also I like to leave a bit of space between pennants as I am sewing.  I like the look of gaps in between a little better, just again...be careful with the tissue paper.  It is delicate, but I love the ruffly texture it adds.

So there you have it friends.  Go make a pretty banner.  And it doesn't even have to be for Valentine's Day...

I am off to make sure Mr. C had a better day today.  He has recently discovered that the world can be a cruel place sometimes and that life is hard.  It has been really difficult as his mother to watch him hurt and battered about and to know that I can NOT make it go away with just a hug and a kiss.  I can however encourage and talk and listen. *Sigh*  I hate watching my kids hurt.  It is dumb.  That is truthfully why I love Valentine's Day and other holidays.  I like to take those moments and really tell my children what they mean to me.  And to give them a little extra boost...a little something special to make them smile.  They have to go out into the world and get knocked down and pushed around, so hopefully a few special notes of encouragement and fun times will help them through the not-so-fun ones.  I hope.

Here's to spreading more love, encouragement and light.  We can never have too much!
